Mark Anton Pevarnic to Perform at Soo Theatre Benefit, Friday, August 3


Hometown hero, Mark Anton Pevarnic, returns to the Soo for a concert of American popular song to benefit the Soo Theatre Project. The Soo Theatre will be filled with wonderful music on Friday, August 3 when Mark Anton Pevarnic and featured local performers present a concert to benefit the Soo Theatre Project. Mark will present highlights from his one man show, "Born Singin'," a revue of American popular song.

Rising stars from the Soo Theatre Arts Resource Studios will join Mark on stage. Among these are Laura Ailing, Melanie Case, Liz Jacobus, Kellie Kaunisto, Lola Kennedy, Regina and Victoria Szleg, Shirley Wilkinson, and Caroline Zinser. As a special sneak preview, Dave Rhinard and Gabbi Werner will enthrall audiences with a duet from the Soo Theatre's upcoming production of Annie.

MEET MARK ANTON

Born in the Soo and the son of Audrey and Tony Pevarnic, Mark has been a professional singer for over 30 years. He currently performs his one man show Born Singin' in venues throughout Southern California and tours and performs with Dick Williams (Andy Williams' brother) and Dick Castle as The Pied Pipers, The Lancers, and the Guy Lombardo Trio.

Mark Anton earned a B.A. in Music Education at Northern Michigan University, taught music in the Michigan public schools, and then pursued graduate studies in voice and piano at Indiana University. Graduate studies led to a tour with the Norman Luboff Choir which led him to a spot as lead tenor with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra's vocal group, The Pied Pipers. Along the way he has studied with Dr. Margaret Haynes at Indiana University, William Shriner of the New York City Opera, Eileen Farrell of New York's Metropolitan Opera (and renowned jazz singer), and Gloria Lane of Italy's La Scala Opera.

Mark has sung lead tenor with the Roger Wagner Chorale, The Dapper Dans of Disneyland, and performed with Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Placido Domingo, Julie Andrews, Barry Manilow, George Burns, Cyd Charisse, many of the stars of the Big Band Era, and the big bands of Ray Anthony, Les Brown, Jimmy Dorsey, Horace Heidt, and Billy May.
