Auditions for The Magic Flute To Take Place March 24

Announcing Auditions for Mozart's The Magic Flute
Saturday, March 24, 2007 2-4 p.m.

Directed by Karen Hughes and Dianna George
Production dates mid June TBA

Solo Singers and Chorus: Please prepare one song or aria. Bring a copy of your music; an accompanist will be provided.

Dancers: We will be using additional performers for stage action and special effects. 11:30a.m. Dance Audition

The Magic Flute is an opera written in the form of musical theater with dialogue and music and will be performed in English. There are a few small speaking roles.

The following roles are to be cast:

Pamina - Lyric soprano with a high B-flat - a princess, daughter of the Queen of the Night

Tamino - Lyric tenor with a high A - a prince

Papageno - Baritone - a bird catcher, a comic role

The Queen of the Night - Lyric coloratura soprano with a high F

Three Ladies:

  • First Lady - Soprano (high A)
  • Second Lady - Mezzo-soprano (or soprano)
  • Third Lady - Mezzo-soprano or alto

Three Spirits (Young singers):
  • First Spirit - Soprano (high A)
  • Second Spirit - Soprano
  • Third Spirit - Soprano

Monostatos - Character tenor with a high G

Papagena - Soubrette or lyric soprano - old woman, girlfriend to Papageno

Two Priests (voices can be adjusted):
  • First Priest - Baritone
  • Second Priest - Tenor
Additional roles: Priests, Slaves, People etc.
